Buffalo and State Line Railroad

History

The Buffalo and State Line Railroad was chartered in June 1849 to build a line from Buffalo to the Pennsylvania state line near Erie.  Construction on the line began in July 1850.  The line was opened from Dunkirk to the state line on January 1, 1852 and from Buffalo on February 22, 1852.

The Erie and Northeast Railroad was incorporated in 1842 to build from the city of Erie to the New York State line.  The two companies cooperated closely and in 1867 they merged to form the Buffalo and Erie Railroad.  Eventually, the railroad became part of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern and New York Central Railroad.
