This June 1935 photo from the John Woodbury collection shows Jamestown, Westfield & Northwestern car number 306 in Jamestown, NY. This car, along with car 307, was built in 1914 by the Cincinnati Car Company as an express car to match the 300-305 series of cars. After the 300-305 series of passenger cars were rebuilt with baggage compartments, Car 306 was converted to a snowplow.

Snow was a big problem on the JW&NW was the line traveled through the heart of the "snow belt" south of Buffalo. Westerly winter winds blowing over Lake Erie picked up moisture and deposited on the region in the form of snow. The company installed many snow fences along its line, but number 306 was kept busy plowing the falling and blowing snow from the rails.
