The Jackson & Sharp Car Co. began building railroad cars, streetcars, and ships for customers around the world in 1863. In 1901 the company was taken over by the American Car and Foundry Co. upon the death of Mr. Jackson. According to the records of the Jackson & Sharp Co records, the Delaware passenger car company built a number of passenger cars for the Chautauqua Lake Railway.
On May 30, 1887, Jackson & Sharp received an order for two passenger cars, shop numbers 2490 and 2494. These standard gauge cars were lettered as "Chautauqua Lake Railway" numbers 4 and 5 and were shipped on July 15, 1887. They included:
