History
In 1856 the Genesee Valley Railroad was incorporated to build a railroad 15 miles from Avon to Mount Morris. The right of way for this line was purchased from the Rochester and Genesee Valley Railroad which was chartered in 1851 to build a line from Rochester to Portage. On January 1, 1859 the first train from Avon reached Geneseo and by January 13 the first train had reached Mount Morris. In December 1859 the company was sold at foreclosure and in February 1860 it was reorganized as the Avon, Geneseo and Mt. Morris Railroad.
