"The Windsplitter"

This undated photograph shows the second passenger station of the Erie Railroad in Salamanca, NY. The station was built in 1872 and was known as "The Windsplitter" due to its extreme length and narrow design. It lasted until 1904 when the Erie built their third station in Salamanca. The station was designed to serve trains from the Erie Railroad on one side and trains from the Atlantic & Great Western Railroad on the other.

This undated airborne photograph shows the length of "The Windsplitter" as it extends the full width of the picture.
