Erie Railroad Engine 3090
N-1 Class 2-8-2
This June 1945 photo shows Erie Railroad number
3090, an N-1 class 2-8-2 locomotive built by Baldwin in 1913 near
Jamestown, NY. These Mikados were the backbone of the Erie's fleet during
World War II hauling freight over the mountains. They had large fireboxes, enabling
them to burn lower-grade coal effectively.
