Accident on the BR&P
A ten-year-old son of Thomas Goodemote met with a serious accident while playing around the cars last Saturday. He was returning from the Cattaraugus Creek where he had been fishing and in company with another lad took the railroad track for a short cut home. While coming up the grade on the Weeden farm a freight train came along and the boys stepped to the side and tried to keep along with the cars, when the Goodemote boy stumbled and fell under the moving train. The train was stopped as soon as possible and the little fellow crawled out with one leg cut off at the knee. He didn't seem to realize what had happened and seeing his limb lying on the ground picked it up and placed it in a basket which he had been carrying. He attempted to get up, saying he wanted to go home, but fell back insensible. Medical aid was immediately summoned and it was found necessary to further amputate the limb just above the knee.
