and others injured.

Wonderful escape of the passengers.

Notes on the disaster. Train No 70 going north on the Bradford, Eldred and Cuba narrow gauge, composed of a combination passenger and baggage car, and engine #4. James France engineer, and Chas Creasy fireman, left Clarksville 25 min, late sat. afternoon. The train is due in Cuba at 4:05 and is allowed 55 min to run from Clarksville. The engineer was attempting to make up lost time and too great of speed combined with a defect in the track, threw the passenger car from the track at the curve just before reaching the trestle on the Congdon farm about two miles from Clarksville, The train ran out on the tresle some distance before the car went over pulling the tender and the engine with it. The tresle at this point was 15 ft high. When the engine went over there were 4 riding in the cab. Three were injured, but the engineer stayed at his post and was instantly killed. The passenger car struck on its side and the passengers made their way through the windows.
