Another accident on the Buffalo & Southwestern occurred early Sunday morning. A freight train broke in two near the Cattaraugus bridge at Gowanda, and the engine and two or three cars had just passed over when the detached part of the train came along and as it mounted the bridge the head car jumped the track and several cars plunged headlong into the creek, carrying with it an entire section of the bridge. No one was injured. Passengers and baggage had to be transferred until the structure was repaired. The Master Mechanic of the road the next day while at work in some manner had both hands crushed; he was taken to Buffalo for treatment.
