BR&P Yard
East Salamanca, New York

East Salamanca was a major freight yard on the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh Railway in Western New York.  The two undated postcards below show the extent of the yard.

The photos below show how the building looked in 1971.  These are from the Library of Congress collection of Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) photos.  Portions of this collection are available in very high resolution digital files from the American Memory section of the Library's web site.  The highest-resolution images are detailed enough to read the number on the freight cars in the yard, but are very large, 15-20 megabytes.

This photo shows the site of the roundhouse. To the right and slightly above the roundhouse is the locomotive repair shop.  Across the tracks from the repair shop is the former passenger station. At the left of the photo is a string of three passenger cars, note the steam locomotive tender to the left of the passenger cars.

The photo above is taken facing south and shows another angle of the yard.  Note the A-B-B-B-A set of locomotives at the servicing facility below and to the left of the repair shop.  Though not recognizable at this resolution, there is a crane car at the south end of the passenger cars in the upper right corner.

This photo is taken facing south and shows another angle of the yard.  Note the corner of the repair shop on the lower left side of the photo.
