East Salamanca, New York

East Salamanca was a major operational hub of the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh Railway in Western New York.  Along with a large yard, roundhouse, dispatcher's office, YMCA, and passenger station the yard featured a large , locomotive repair shop.  This repair shop had eight bays for servicing locomotives.

The photos below show how the building looked in 1971.  These are from the Library of Congress collection of Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) photos.  Portions of this collection are available in very high resolution digital files from the American Memory section of the Library's web site.  The highest-resolution images are detailed enough to read the number on the freight cars in the yard, but are very large, 15-20 megabytes.

This view shows the north side of the building and clearly shows where the transfer table was located in front of the shops.
This view shows the south and east sides of the building.  The passenger station is visible in the upper left corner of the photo.
